Project Info

The project required the demolition of the existing circular stoning ponds and their vicinity to make way for the construction of oval ponds with a long oval shakhes (stoning marker wall) removing any intervening columns and creating an expanse of uninterrupted space, which necessitated massive post – tensioned beams up to 44 meters in span carried over four enormous columns, giving greater clearance around each Jamarah.

Large elevated video screens will be located strategically to inform the pilgrims of the crowding conditions in various locations. A new system of crowd density measuring cameras linked to computers at the control tower will enable the authorities to take the appropriate action at the indication of over-crowding at any given location, alerting pilgrims in neighboring areas not to approach the congested zones.

When Almabani accepted the challenge and privilege of this venture, it immediately mobilized all the resources that the project requires in record time. A dynamic design and construction team was formed from all the different specializations including a team from Vinci Construction Grand’s Project and their post-tension specialist subsidiary.

Freyssinet Gulf LLC in spite of the overwhelming logistical and design problems of making adjustments of this significance to an existing bridge structure in the very tight time frame, the strong cooperation and goodwill that prevailed between all has helped the project gather more and more momentum. Having reached a workforce of over 800, we are currently on schedule for the targeted completion at all works by the end of this year.
