Project Info

 The scope of work consists of upgrading the existing airport for Wide Body Aircraft future use. The work includes new pavements, upgrade of existing pavements, new buildings, upgrade of existing buildings, as well as all relevant electro – mechanical works. The site has a total area of 4.6 km2 and total built up area of 2.6 km2.

Civil (56 %):
 All aircraft pavements runways and taxiways will be widened and reinforced to be able to receive Wide Body Aircraft. New Techniques in asphalting will be used to ensure high quality pavements.

Mechanical (16 %):
 Mechanical works include a central cooling plant, a new pump house, firefighting booster station, sewage treatment plant as well as a new concept of the airport drainage system to replace the existing.

Electrical (28 %):
 Modification and extension of the existing powerhouse with new set of generators, telephone system, CCTV System, Fire Alarm Systems, Substations and Security Lighting.

Special Systems (20 %):
Air Field Lighting System.
New techniques in asphalting (Polymer Modified Asplalt).

Challenges and Highlights:
 The main challenge is to prevent the reflection of existing detects into the final state after the renovation and upgrading; that applies on the whole scope of works. Continuous investigations and consequent modifications are being applied to ensure quality in all kinds of works.

 Jizan Airport is a major regional airport in Saudi Arabia with average transit of 600,000 passengers per year. The works are carried out by phrases to prevent any major change in the movements of aircrafts and passengers during the works. Temporary runway and terminal within the airport premises will be constructed while the main ones are being upgraded. The construction works will be executed in a way that preserves the same efficiency, safety and continuous operation of the airport system.
