Project Info

 The overall project consists of a Desalination Plant capable of producing 280,000 m3 of water per day by the MSF process. It includes eight identical MSF units of 35,000 m3/day capacity with all principal and complementary parts and the implementation of an Auxiliary Dump Condenser, Research Pilot Plant and Supply of spare parts.

Almabani’s portion of this contract covers the performing of civil works such as construction of:

  • 8 desalination units (120m x 50m each) including all civil foundation and underground piping and utilities.
  • 5 switchgear buildings, installation of precast wall units and installation of electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Chlorination building including all mechanical and electrical utilities.
  • Pump chamber (65m x 65m x 12m deep) including installation of the super steel structure and over head crane (150 ton).
  • Shore protection and mooring facility including sheet piles, anchors, grouting and capping facility.
  • Civil foundation for circular steel tanks (storage tanks).
  • All precast elements.

Other works also include fencing, architecture finishing, road signs, asphalt and road marking; dreadging and shore protection for the main out fall channel.
The civil works are so varied and include – in addition to vibro – floration – extensive dewatering, sheet piling cofferdam for the outlet structure and thrust boring whereby two sleeves are jacked under a main highway 100 meters wide without disrupting the traffic.
